Awakening in a World of Sleep
In many subtle ways, modern society encourages people to
live passively—like Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) in a game. These individuals
follow trends, obey without question, and conform to the expectations around
them. While this makes society easier to control—predictable, manageable,
obedient—it strips individuals of their depth, autonomy, and truth.
When we live this way, we’re not truly living. We are
existing in a script, disconnected from the higher reality of who we are.
The Illusion of Freedom
Films like The Matrix and They Live portray
this dynamic powerfully: a world where most people are trapped in illusion,
unaware they are asleep. These stories serve as metaphors for a deeper
spiritual reality. In the modern world, many unknowingly absorb ideas, habits,
and values fed to them by media, systems, and secular ideologies. They live
scripted lives—mistaking comfort for clarity, and stimulation for meaning.
But there is another way.
Secularism and the Numbing of the Soul
Secular thought often reinforces the NPC mindset. It
encourages a focus on material gain, fleeting pleasure, and external validation.
The soul, under these conditions, begins to forget its origin and purpose. In
contrast, Islam awakens the spirit, calling us to reconnect with reality—not
the reality of appearances, but the reality of meaning, truth, and presence.
The Qur’an does not call us to conformity. It calls us to
consciousness.
“Do they not reflect within themselves? Allah created the
heavens and the earth and everything between them for a true purpose and for an
appointed term. Yet many people deny they will meet their Lord.”
(Surah Ar-Rum 30:8)
This verse is a call inward—to reflect, to question, to
awaken. It reminds us that life is not a game of survival or conformity, but a
purposeful journey toward Allah.
The Fall from Awareness
Even those who once lived with clarity—the Playable
Characters (PCs)—can slip into passivity. Depression, hopelessness, and unworthiness can erode awareness over time. These emotions shrink the soul
inward, locking a person into survival mode. They become self-focused,
overwhelmed by pain, and disconnected from spiritual reality.
This descent is subtle but dangerous. It doesn’t happen
overnight. It begins with silence, apathy, distraction—until the inner light
dims.
Staying Awake in a Sleeping World
To protect the soul, we must practice awareness,
self-reflection, and intentional living. In a world designed to distract, the
simple act of asking “Why?” becomes revolutionary. Truth-seeking is not
rebellion—it is remembrance. It is a return to the fitrah, the pure nature we
were created with.
Remaining awake takes effort. But with each conscious
choice, the illusion fades, and reality sharpens.
The Choice Before You
Every day, we are faced with a choice:
Remain an NPC—comfortable but asleep, reactive but disconnected.
Or become a PC—aware, engaged, and alive to the mystery and purpose of
existence.
Awakening is not easy. It requires courage to question,
humility to learn, and strength to change. But it is the only way to reclaim
your soul—and live a life shaped not by the world, but by truth.
